Scope of Works
Breight Group was engaged by Rio Tinto to upgrade the liner system on the North wall of the Yandi site’s chute, following significant wear on the parent metal. The project scope included the fabrication and installation of liner plates to prevent further wear and ensure the continued functionality of the chute.
The process began with the pre-fabrication of the required liner plates, based on the provided drawings, which were essential for the planned shutdown. The welding of the liner plates took place in specific cut-out sections, allowing the plates to be securely attached to the external upright T-beams. To protect the welds, chockie blocks were welded over the cut-outs.
Due to the scale and complexity of the job, the project was divided into two stages. The first stage involved the removal of the head chute using a crane, allowing for the installation of the first set of liners. The liners were then transferred using chain blocks for precise installation. The second stage saw the installation of additional liners in the required rows, all completed within the planned time constraints.
Breight Group managed the entire process, ensuring efficient coordination and minimal disruption to site operations. The project was executed safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards, with all works completed to the satisfaction of Rio Tinto.
Key Activities Completed:

- Welding of liner plates to T-beams with protective chockie blocks
- Removal of the head chute using crane and chain blocks for liner installation
- Installation of two rows of liners in two stages due to time constraints
